How Long Should You Hang Onto Your Home-Based Business Dream?

A home-based business becomes for the business owner, an entity in and of itself. Because so much hard work, blood, sweat and tears goes into every home-based business, it is easy to view it as having a “life” of its own and a home-based business can be more real to the business owner than anything else in their lives.

However, there is also a dark side to a home-based business, especially one that is failing miserably. Part of being successful within a work-at-home dream also means knowing “when” to quit, or “fold”. A home-based business can be like a game of cards, when the “losses” exceed the “wins”, it may be time to give up on the business and either start another one, or look into other forms of outside employment.

It has been said, “that most entrepreneurs fail three to five times” before they actually start a business that succeeds. Although it is imperative that entrepreneurs be persistent, not being able to accept failure, when it is obvious that failure has occurred, can be extremely detrimental.

So, how does an entrepreneur “know” when it is time to give up or when they should continue? Simple, the amount of actual “suffering” needs to be measured. The following “suffering measurement” should take into account:

1. What type of debt the entrepreneur is accruing, and how many bills and necessary needs are being neglected. No one should live without food, clothing, shelter or the necessary medical care needed for a gratifying life. If a home-based business is constantly leaving the business owner without funds with which to sustain life, then it is probably time to quit.

2. What type of emotional pain is the entrepreneur facing? If the business has become so stressful because of mounting debt, or the entrepreneur’s family is turning against them because of the business, then it is probably time to quit.

3. If there is a chance of losing a home or other holdings and property because of the bills engendered during the business, then it is probably time to quit.

4. If the frustration of having the business and handling the day to day operations surrounding the business is greater than the pleasure of owning the business, then it is probably time to quit.

Notice I have only mentioned the fact that it is “probably time to quit”. No one but the actual business owner can sufficiently measure when a business should be declared a failure and when they, the business owner, should walk away.

Let’s face it, even older businesses can face renewed challenges to their survival. Markets can change drastically sometimes, seemingly overnight. Consumer behavior also can change quickly. Newer businesses can face start-up challenges, but older businesses can encounter significant “bumps in the road” to business success as well.

All the above factors need to be weighed carefully before deciding either to “quit” or “stay” with the home-based business.

There are some methods that can be successful for alleviating some of the financial and emotional stress that accompanies a failing business:

1. An outside source of employment can be taken “temporarily”, and the business can be worked on “part-time” in an entrepreneur’s free time.

2. Loans and grants can be taken to alleviate financial strains until the business becomes solvent.

3. The entrepreneur can enlist the aid of family and friends, by allowing them to “buy into” the business, or by forming an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation), wherein the business owner is no longer solely responsible for debts or liabilities. Most new business owners start with a Sole Proprietorship model, so switching to the more encompassing LLC may indeed aid the business in its quest for survival.

4. Business owners can “downsize” their expenditures, both in the business, and in their personal lives. Downsizing of expenditures can literally save thousands per month and may indeed “save” the business from ruin!

In reality, there is no “shame” in failure. Failure at anything only teaches valuable lessons, lessons that may be incorporated into success at another time! If you’re suffering in your home-based business, don’t allow pride to stop you from admitting defeat and moving forward in another area of life! That’s what being an entrepreneur is really all about.

Millennium Education Development – Ways To Achieve

Dr. Tooley: His conclusions on Private Education and Entrepreneurship

Professor James Tooley criticized the United Nations’ proposals to eliminate all fees in state primary schools globally to meet its goal of universal education by 2015. Dr. Tooley says the UN, which is placing particular emphasis on those regions doing worse at moving towards ‘education for all’ namely sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, is “backing the wrong horse”.1

On his extensive research in the world poorest countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, India, and China, Dr. Tooley found that private unaided schools in the slum areas outperform their public counterparts. A significant number of a large majority of school children came from unrecognized schools and children from such schools outperform similar students in government schools in key school subjects.2 Private schools for the poor are counterparts for private schools for the elite. While elite private schools cater the needs of the privilege classes, there come the non-elite private schools which, as the entrepreneurs claimed, were set up in a mixture of philanthropy and commerce, from scarce resources. These private sector aims to serve the poor by offering the best quality they could while charging affordable fees.3

Thus, Dr. Tooley concluded that private education can be made available for all. He suggested that the quality of private education especially the private unaided schools can be raised through the help of International Aid. If the World Bank and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) could find ways to invest in private schools, then genuine education could result. 4 Offering loans to help schools improve their infrastructure or worthwhile teacher training, or creating partial vouchers to help even more of the poor to gain access to private schools are other strategies to be considered. Dr. Tooley holds that since many poor parents use private and not state schools, then “Education for All is going to be much easier to achieve than is currently believed”.

Hurdles in Achieving the MED

Teachers are the key factor in the learning phenomenon. They must now become the centerpiece of national efforts to achieve the dream that every child can have an education of good quality by 2015. Yet 18 million more teachers are needed if every child is to receive a quality education. 100 million children are still denied the opportunity of going to school. Millions are sitting in over-crowded classrooms for only a few hours a day.5 Too many excellent teachers who make learning exciting will change professions for higher paid opportunities while less productive teachers will retire on the job and coast toward their pension.6 How can we provide millions of more teachers?

Discrimination in girls access to education persists in many areas, owing to customary attitudes, early marriages and pregnancies, inadequate and gender-biased teaching and educational materials, sexual harassment and lack of adequate and physically and other wise accessible schooling facilities. 7

Child labor is common among the third world countries. Too many children undertake heavy domestic works at early age and are expected to manage heavy responsibilities. Numerous children rarely enjoy proper nutrition and are forced to do laborious toils.

Peace and economic struggles are other things to consider. The Bhutan country for example, has to take hurdles of high population growth (3%), vast mountainous areas with low population density, a limited resources base and unemployment. Sri Lanka reported an impressive record, yet, civil war is affecting its ability to mobilize funds since spending on defense eats up a quarter of the national budget.8

Putting children into school may not be enough. Bangladesh’s Education minister, A. S. H. Sadique, announced a 65% literacy rate, 3% increase since Dakar and a 30% rise since 1990. While basic education and literacy had improved in his country, he said that quality had been sacrificed in the pursuit of number.9 According to Nigel Fisher of UNICEF Kathmandu, “fewer children in his country survive to Grade 5 than in any region of the world. Repetition was a gross wastage of resources”.

Furthermore, other challenges in meeting the goal include: (1) How to reach out with education to HIV/AIDS orphans in regions such as Africa when the pandemic is wreaking havoc. (2) How to offer education to ever-increasing number of refugees and displaced people. (3) How to help teachers acquire a new understanding of their role and how to harness the new technologies to benefit the poor. And (4), in a world with 700 million people living in a forty-two highly indebted countries – how to help education overcome poverty and give millions of children a chance to realize their full potential.10

Education for All: How?

The goal is simple: Get the 100 million kids missing an education into school.

The question: How?

The first most essential problem in education is the lack of teachers and it has to be addressed first. Teacher corps should be improved through better recruitment strategies, mentoring and enhancing training academies. 11 Assistant teachers could be trained. Through mentoring, assistant teachers will develop the skills to become good teachers. In order to build a higher quality teacher workforce; selective hiring, a lengthy apprenticeship with comprehensive evaluation, follow ups with regular and rigorous personnel evaluations with pay-for-performance rewards, should be considered.12 Remuneration of teaching staff will motivate good teachers to stay and the unfruitful ones to do better.

Problems regarding sex discrimination and child labor should be eliminated. The Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA), for example, addressed the problem of gender inequality. BPFA calls on governments and relevant sectors to create an education and social environment, in which women and men, girls and boys, are treated equally, and to provide access for and retention of girls and women at all levels of education.13 The Global Task Force on Child Labor and Education and its proposed role for advocacy, coordination and research, were endorsed by the participants in Beijing. The UN added that incentives should be provided to the poorest families to support their children’s education.14

Highly indebted countries complain on lack of resources. Most of these countries spend on education and health as much as debt repayments. If these countries are with pro-poor programs that have a strong bias for basic education, will debt cancellation help them? Should these regions be a lobby for debt relief?

Partly explains the lack of progress, the rich countries, by paying themselves a piece dividend at the end of the Cold War, had reduced their international development assistance. In 2000, the real value of aid flows stood at only about 80% of their 1990 levels. Furthermore, the share of the aid going to education fell by 30% between 1990 and 2000 represented 7% of bilateral aid by that time. 15 Given this case, what is the chance of the United Nations’ call to the donors to double the billion of dollars of aid? According to John Daniel, Assistant Director-General for Education, UNESCO (2001-04), at present, 97% of the resources devoted to education in the developing countries come from the countries themselves and only 3% from the international resources. The key principle is that the primary responsibility for achieving ‘education for all’ lies with the national governments. International and bilateral agencies can help, but the drive has to come from the country itself. These countries are advised to chart a sustainable strategy for achieving education for all. This could mean reallocation of resources to education from other expenditures. It will often mean reallocation of resources within the education budget to basic education and away from other levels. 16

A Closer Look: Private and Public Schools

Some of the most disadvantage people on this planet vote with their feet: exit the public schools and move their children in private schools. Why are private schools better than state schools?

Teachers in the private schools are more accountable. There are more classroom activities and levels of teachers’ dedication. The teachers are accountable to the manager who can fire them whenever they are seen with incompetence. The manager as well is accountable to the parents who can withdraw their children.17 Thus; basically, the private schools are driven with negative reinforcements. These drives, however, bear positive results. Private schools are able to carry quality education better than state schools. The new research found that private schools for the poor exist in the slum areas aiming to help the very disadvantage have access to quality education. The poor subsidized the poorest.

Such accountability is not present in the government schools. Teachers in the public schools cannot be fired mainly because of incompetence. Principals/head teachers are not accountable to the parents if their children are not given adequate education. Researchers noted of irresponsible teachers ‘keeping a school closed … for months at a time, many cases of drunk teachers, and head teachers who asked children to do domestic chores including baby sitting. These actions are ‘plainly negligence’.

Are there any means to battle the system of negligence that pulls the state schools into failing? Should international aids be invested solely to private schools that are performing better and leave the state schools in total collapse? If private education seems to be the hope in achieving education for all, why not privatize all low performing state schools? Should the public schools be developed through a systematic change, will the competition between the public and the private schools result to much better outcomes? What is the chance that all educational entrepreneurs of the world will adapt the spirit of dedication and social works – offering free places for the poorest students and catering their needs?

Public schools can be made better. They can be made great schools if the resources are there, the community is included and teachers and other school workers get the support and respect they need. The government has to be hands on in improving the quality of education of state schools. In New York City for example, ACORN formed a collaborative with other community groups and the teachers union to improve 10 low-performing district 9 schools. The collaborative won $1.6 million in funding for most of its comprehensive plan to hire more effective principals, support the development of a highly teaching force and build strong family-school partnerships. 18

Standardized tests are also vital in improving schools and student achievements. It provides comparable information about schools and identifies schools that are doing fine, schools that are doing badly and some that are barely functioning. The data on student achievement provided by the standardized tests are essential diagnostic tool to improve performance. 19

The privatization of public schools is not the answer at all. Take for instance the idea of charter schools. As an alternative to failed public schools and government bureaucracy, local communities in America used public funds to start their own schools. And what started in a handful of states became a nationwide phenomenon. But according to a new national comparison of test

scores among children in charter schools and regular public schools, most charter schools aren’t measuring up. The Education Department’s findings showed that in almost every racial, economic and geographic category, fourth graders in traditional public schools outperform fourth graders in charter schools. 20

If the government can harness the quality of state schools, and if the World Bank and the Bilateral Agencies could find ways to invest on both the private and the public schools – instead of putting money only on the private schools where only a small fraction of students will have access to quality education while the majority are left behind – then ‘genuine education’ could result.

Conclusion

Education for all apparently is a simple goal, yet, is taking a long time for the world to achieve. Several of destructive forces are blocking its way to meet the goal and the fear of failure is strong. Numerous solutions are available to fix the failed system of public schools but the best solution is still unknown. Several challenges are faced by the private schools to meet their accountabilities, but the resources are scarce. Every country is committed to develop its education to bring every child into school but most are still struggling with mountainous debts.

‘Primary education for all by 2015′ will not be easy. However, everyone must be assured that the millennium development goal is possible and attainable. Since the Dakar meeting, several countries reported their progress in education. In Africa, for example, thirteen countries have, or should have attained Universal Primary Education (UPE) by the target date of 2015. 23 It challenges other countries, those that are lagging behind in achieving universal education to base their policies on programs that have proved effective in other African nations. Many more are working for the goal, each progressing in different paces. One thing is clear; the World is committed to meet its goal. The challenge is not to make that commitment falter, because a well-educated world will be a world that can better cope with conflicts and difficulties: thus, a better place to live.

A Guide To Camping For Beginners

If you have ever driven through a campground and seen families having great fun camping together and thought, “that looks that a great family activity”, you are right! Camping is one of the most wholesome, fun, affordable and bonding experiences a family can get into. But if you have driven along looking at all the equipment and skills needed to learn camp and thought, “I can never learn to do all of that”, you are wrong. It really isn’t that hard to learn to camp? and every step along the way is lots of fun for everyone.

So how do you get started learning to camp? There is no question that there is some equipment involved and learning to set up a camp, use your gear to enjoy a night of eating and sleeping in the open spaces and then get home safe and sound requires a bit of a learning curve. For many parents that want to start camping to give their children those experiences, the idea of buying all that equipment is intimidating. And you don’t want to get the wrong equipment and then have to buy it all over again. Those kinds of mistakes can kill your enthusiasm for expanding your camping hobby into a passion for camping.

So one of the best ways to learn to camp and to try out camping equipment is to camp with someone who is good at it. Many experienced camping families have excess equipment or know other families who will loan you equipment to try out on your first camp out. If one of your friends or friends of your children are experienced campers, you will find them to probably be evangelistic about it and happy to let you tag along on their next camp out to show you the ropes. If they can help you borrow some equipment, you can learn to use it and try out different camping options so when you are ready to buy your own equipment you already know what you like and don’t like.

Another great way to get some camping experience without buying a thing is to get involved in camping organization. If you have children, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are organizations geared for building life skills in children and who are heavily dedicated to camping. Most scout troops have an extensive arsenal of camping gear and the leadership are almost always seasoned campers with a flair for teaching.

It is the mission of the scouts to train new recruits in the fine points of camping so you can tag along on some camp outs and learn some great camping skills. Also scouts actively encourages parent involvement so dad and mom can learn to camp right along with their children. Who knows but you may get involved with the scouts just to harvest some camping skills and find yourself hooked and becoming life long Boy or Girl Scout enthusiasts. There are worse things children or a whole family can be involved in for sure.

After getting some exposure, you will want to think through what kind of tents, sleeping bags and other camping gear you will want to buy as you launch your family camping hobby. Many two-man tents are economical and easy to transport, put up and break down. But if you are going to have the entire family in one tent, you may want to look into a larger family tent that mom and dad can stand up in and that provides plenty of room for gear and children as well. But look ahead in your camping life. As the children grow older, they may want to move out into their own tents to think of how your first starter tent will fit into the larger scheme of camping as you grow in your camping ambitions.

Another consideration is whether you will need electricity and water facilities at the camp grounds you visit or if you will provide for those things yourself. Many beginning campers prefer to use electricity and water hook ups to make it easier on parents who are learning the tricks of the trade of camping. But remember to take extension cords and water hoses so you can bring those resources into camp and even right into the tent with you.

Also think about the space in your vehicle for camping gear and how you will transport your new gear to and from camp. You probably don’t want to buy a vehicle just for camping at first so learning to pack light and only take what is needed will be an important skill for you throughout your camping career.

Take it slow as you learn each new method of camping and begin to use new tools that you see other campers use. One way to slowly expand your camping gear is to plan to buy one new piece of camping equipment each season so you find your knowledge and skills at using that new gear grow at a steady pace as well.

Take it slow in how ambitious you get in your camping plans. Don’t drive two days to the deep mountains and take on a primitive camping adventure if you are new to the sport. Start out with one night camp outs close to home. Yes, your first camp out may even be in your back yard so you can do a trial run with your equipment but be close enough to run inside if things go wrong. Then slowly expand the number of nights you are out and how far away from home you get.

You will find camping to be an addictive passion and it’s an addiction that you will be glad your family got hooked on. By using some common sense and developing your skills steadily, you can expand your vision and take on more and more aggressive and ambitious camping adventures over time. Then when you have graduated from beginner camper to seasoned old pro, you will look back at your progress and get some real gratification that you took on something new and made it your own. You will be proud of yourself and your kids will be proud too because they will have a love of camping that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

If Not Money, Then What?

.opyright 2006 Dr. Eileen Silva

Im going to subtitle this article: The Rest of the Story, because as I sit here I realize that I really love many of the non-check benefits of MLM. These benefits sometimes cost money — lots of money — but not for me.

You see, our company picks up the tab on two, all-expense-paid, incentive vacations a year. These are five star events that are truly trips that money couldnt buy, because the president of our company previews the locations, the restaurants, and the excursions. Everyone loves them, and that is guaranteed!

I remember flying to Maui for my third all-expensive Maui experience. I had learned to book my massages, facials and body wraps before I went. Id also learned that Hawaiian fabric starts out looking gaudy and atrocious, but you gradually become sort of anesthetized to it and begin to erroneously think you like it — until you hit the mainland, where it continues — year after year — to look ridiculous. When you unpack your bags (or watch your maid unpack your bags), you continue wondering if maybe all that pineapple clouded your judgment.

Well, mementos and local clothing aside, the trips are fabulous. Whats not to love — France, England, cruises, Monte Carlo, Ireland, and Maui? I would gladly put forth significant effort just to be on the trip, even if I never made a dime!

On some trips, we are presented incentive, spending-money bonuses too. There is something about having your company pay for your luxurious lifestyle that is intoxicating. But, trips are not all! Weve earned not one, not two, but dozens of award trophies and prizes. Weve won everything from Waterford crystal to televisions.

Another of my favorite non-money benefits is the opportunity to work with great people. Some of them have become friends that we talk with every day and look forward to seeing on the beaches of the world. These friends are scattered all over the world, but most particularly, all over the United States, so we are able to experience all of the cultural nuances of this great country with friends. When I go to Seattle, I have seafood. When Im in Buffalo, I have wings. In Dallas, Mexican food is the thing, and on Maui, its a luau.

In addition to enjoying culinary treats, we also experience whatever special things each area has to offer, whether mountain lakes, antique malls, spa treatments, football games, or churches. Network marketing has given us a cultural appreciation and exposure that I never dreamed possible. Before I joined MLM, I had only flown a couple of times. Now Ive logged well over a million miles in the air!

But, perhaps one of the greatest intangibles is the joy of seeing some spectacular magazine, television and newspaper coverage. Sometimes I really have to pinch myself because it is so exciting to be a part of this industry.

I remember the day that I flipped open a magazine that came in the mail, and THERE IT WAS — a life-size picture of my grandson and me, side-barring an incredible interview that I had forgotten about doing. I knew I had lent the magazine a number of great pictures, but I was totally surprised to see what they had done with those pictures.

Another of those non-financial benefits is being able to have people who, not only know WHO we are, but also HOW we are doing and what program we are working. Once in awhile someone calls and says, You dont know who I am, but I know you, and Id like to join your organization.

Id be remiss if I didnt mention the benefit of the personal growth Ive experienced. Im happier than I have ever been, and Im now living life on my terms. I hope this article has gotten you thinking. I realize as I write this, that some of my fondest memories in this business had nothing to do with money. They had to do with people, places, or experiences. Next time you are evaluating the success youre having in your MLM, dont forget the intangibles . . . for they might provide all the difference.

The Advent Of Music From Home Made Recording Studio

The continuous development in the industry of recording.gives birth to music recording from the comfort of home. This type of recording received wide acceptance and popularity among musicians. This recording allows them to create their own compositions through the used of computer and software. It is simple and easy to use hence create enthusiasm among many musicians. The cost of productions is comparable over the other traditional means of recording. Another impressive feature of this recording type is it only needs a compact space to set-up the basic equipment.

The Basics of Student Credit Cards

Credit card companies consider students that are loyal and good customers, as they tend to upgrade the credit cards when the need arises to do so and the students are supposed to keep the credit cards for a longer period. Hence student credit card offers are found in every nook and corner of the college campus, social gatherings, through their emails and even in the book stores. These facts make the availability of credit cards to students within easy reach. Also the fact is that the students do not have a steady source of income making them go for a credit card. This is to the benefit of the credit card companies as they get more income on late payment dues and penalties, interest for the credit card balance which is not paid, annual fees etc All the above facts make the students the best customers for the credit card issuing companies.

The Current Facts On Postage Stamps

Postage stamps are the proof that the proper fee has been paid to send a piece of correspondence. If a postage stamp is not present on a piece of mail being sent, the recipient becomes responsible for paying the postage due. If the recipient does not wish to pay the postage due, then the item is returned to the original sender.

Postage stamps can be purchased in a variety of ways. They can be purchased individually, in a book (usually 20) or in a larger roll, if a significant amount is needed. Stamps can be found at the local postal office, in a machine, or at certain locations that provide the service of selling stamps. Keep in mind that most of these remote locations, which are not affiliated with the postal service, tend to charge more per stamp. For example, an establishment that cashes checks and provides other similar services charges 50 cents for a stamp that costs only 39 cents if purchased elsewhere.

Postage stamps have come along way since their initial introduction. No advancement is more appreciated than the birth of the self-sticking stamp. Along with this clever, and much appreciated, advancement, there has also been the change in the look of postage stamps.

Postage stamps come in a variety of sizes and shapes now, and they have all sorts of pictures and themes to them. Depending on the season or current holiday, stamps will have themes that match the current time.

Postage stamps have also been made in honor of certain people and places. Additionally, a neat feature of stamps is that they can be purchased for a particular cause and the difference in the proceeds (which is very slight) will go to the cause the stamps were promoting.

The current price of postage stamps is 39 cents a piece, which is a 2 cents increase over the 37 cents amount. Postage prices continue to rise as the general public uses hard-copy mail less and less, due to advancements in technology that allow most common correspondence to be sent electronically.

As the use of the electronic submission grows, the price of individual postage stamps will most likely increase. If the total volume of mail decreases, the difference must be made up by charging more money to send each piece of mail. The likelihood, at this point, is that postage stamps will continue to increase in price, as time goes on.

South Beach Diet And Alcohol Combination

The South Beach Diet continues to create its own name in many parts of the world. Along with its rapid widespread, many issues surrounding the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol came to surface. With this fact, the number of studies concerning the South Beach Diet and alcohol increases and as such, still many unanswered questions are left.

Speaking about the issue on the South Beach Diet and alcohol, it is commonly noted that the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol is best explained when referring to natural principle behind the South Beach Diet and alcohol. This simply means by looking to every detail mentioned in the South Beach Diet principles and relate it to the function of the alcohol in the diet.

The South Beach Diet in the first place is an eating plan that bears the principle for right carbohydrates and right fats for a healthy life. As such, the South Beach Diet is generally divided into three different phases. With this division, the existence of the somewhat bond between the South Beach Diet and alcohol becomes evident.

According to many studied, the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol is best explained when knowing that the South Beach Diet does not really favor the intake of alcohol in the diet. This explanation between the South Beach Diet and alcohol is in fact shown that during the first two weeks of the South Beach Diet, alcohol is not allowed along with other cookies and goodies. But many people that were given such explanation between the South Beach Diet and alcohol often question the real reason for such restriction. Well, the real reason for such restriction for alcohol in the diet holds that alcohol cause swings in blood sugar that make the South Beach Dieters hungry. This is in fact the purpose of the first two weeks of the diet to eliminate the dieters cravings for food.

Along with such explanation for the relationship of the South Beach Diet and alcohol, another support is given that the alcohol is eliminated in the diet knowing that it has a high level of sugar will hinder the goal of losing weight for about eight to thirteen pounds.

Numerous studies conducted for the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol however shows that a moderate alcohol intake is not that really bad. It is for the reason that it help in slow stomach emptying, and therefore slows the rise and fall of blood sugar, which is the main goal in the South Beach Diet. However, in the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol, it is noted that an excess in alcohol intake doe turn into sugar and can be a diet buster.

So if you absolutely have to have one, it is then necessary to go for a low-carbohydrate version. Another study that shows the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol have shown that hard alcohols have less potential to raise the blood sugar, though they certainly are not that virtuous. But still it is commonly noted to best stay away from it for better health.

Safety Instructions About Forklifts

Forklifts are industrial vehicles made to take the place of manual lifting and manual work. There are two forks or arms located at the front of the vehicle that are used to lift, lower, stack and unstack heavy load.. The loads are usually stacked on top of wooden pallets that the arms or forks fit into to bring a large quantity of things up or down at once. The drivers cause almost 50% of accidents involving forklifts. Normally, the driver has hit a pedestrian. Therefore, forklifts and people should not be in the vicinity of each other.

Some other forklift related accidents include:

Forklift tipping over and overturning
Collision with other vehicles or stationary objects
Part of the operator’s body leaning out of the cabin and hitting an object
The load falling off the pallets

There are things that can be done by the employee to reduce the number of forklift accidents. First, the driver should always perform a pre-safety check of the vehicle before operating. Once the driver sees that all is in tact, while driving the vehicle the driver should use safe handling procedures of the load. This includes paying close attention to the load limit of each particular forklift. Since forklifts are a gas-powered vehicle, gasoline limits and storage should be carefully observed. In addition to safe fuel use, the battery also needs to be handled and cared for properly to ensure safety.

Here are a few safety procedures that should be followed by all employees. Some of them may seem like common sense, but they are so important that they are in need of repeating.

Passengers on forklifts to be strictly forbidden, unless there is a separate seat provided with a restraint
Other people kept clear when forklift is operating
Operator should take care when moving between artificial and natural light
Load made secure and lowered to safe centre of gravity before carrying
Sudden stops and starts are to be avoided
No part of the operator’s body to protrude beyond the overhead protection
Ramps not to be used unless the forklift operator is trained in their use
Operator to remain seated and secured at all times
Forklift to operate within a designated area, separate from pedestrians
Operator to remain in the cabin when a forklift overturns
Most importantly:

PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER BE RAISED ON THE FORKLIFT OR THE PALLETS
IF THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO LIFT A WORKER, A PROPER WORK PLATFORM MUST BE USED

In addition to checking the vehicle daily for safety hazards, the workplace should also be checked for the following:

Power-lines
Blind corners
Pedestrian areas
Low doorways
Uneven floors
Ramps
Overhead pipes and fittings
Confined spaces
Adequate lighting
Noise

Above all else, a training coarse must be completed before attempting to drive or operate a forklift. Besides formal instruction, the training must include practical training (such as demonstrations) and an evaluation of the operator in the workplace to assure that he can operate the forklift safely. Initial training content must consist of both truck-related topics and workplace-related topics.

Some truck-related topics include:

operating instructions, warnings and precautions specific to the trucks the employee will be authorized to operate
differences between the truck and the automobile
truck controls and instrumentation
engine or motor operation
steering and maneuvering
visibility
fork and attachment adaptation, operation and use limitations;
vehicle capacity
vehicle stability
any vehicle inspection and maintenance that the operator must perform;
refueling and/or charging and recharging of batteries
operating limitations
any other information from the forklift operator’s manual.
Some workplace related topics include:

surface conditions where the vehicle will be operated
composition of loads and load stability
load manipulation, stacking and unstacking
pedestrian traffic
narrow aisles and other restricted places where the vehicle will be operated
any hazardous (classified) locations, such as flammable storage areas, where the vehicle will be operated
ramps and other sloped surfaces;
closed environments and other areas where insufficient ventilation or poor vehicle maintenance could cause a buildup of carbon monoxide or diesel exhaust; and
other unique or potentially hazardous environmental conditions in the workplace.

Soluble New Years Resolutions

As Big Ben chimes at midnight on 31st December we toast in the New Year and make all those decisions about what we want for the next year, and talk about all the great things we will achieve. Then what? By the end of January or possibly, if we are lucky, February our resolve has dissolved and life carries on as normal until the next time Big Ben chimes out a new year.

Does this sound familiar? If so you are one of the millions of people who make (and subsequently break!) their New Years resolutions year after year.

So why do we do it? What makes January the first such a special time to make a change to our lives and why is it then so difficult to maintain that change?

The answer to this may never be fully known and understood but in my experience there are a number of key reasons that apply to some, if not all, of the broken resolutions.

- We are not at our most sober or clear thinking when we make the commitment.
- Everyone breaks New Years Resolutions so why shouldnt we?
- January is wet, miserable and cold (or hot and sunny depending on where you live) and the weather affects our mood and desire to achieve.
- The friends we tell our resolutions to on NYE either cant remember or are too busy breaking their own to be motivational

So how can we make changes that are lasting in our lives? These are a few of the positive steps that we can all take to help us make lasting changes in our lives.

- Chose a day and time in the very near future and make that your change my life plan day dont wait for New Year.

- Tell as many people as you can about your plan and tell them you want to stick to it. It is much easier keeping a commitment you have made to others than just to yourself.

- Set your goal or plan in achievable, measurable steps try and change the world in a day and you are destined to fail!

- Choose a looking forward plan where you focus on what you want to achieve, not what you want to avoid.

So as we head towards, or away from the New Year lets just enjoy the celebrations and make today the day to make lasting change.

Think You Don’t Have What It Takes To Own Your Own Business? Think Again!

Years ago when the Internet first started, just about everybody thought they could jump in and profit from their own home-based business. And why not?

The optimism is warranted. A home-based business can give you immense time freedom to be with the ones you love, pursue your interests, or simply earn a good income without having to commute to a job and boss.

Within a few years, just about all of us working online knew people who had succeeded magnificently in their home business, many earning hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.

But, sadly, the vast majority of people didn’t make much if any money in their home-based business. They quickly discovered some of the pitfalls.

The biggest problem was after you sold your shiny new product to your friends and family, you didn’t have anyone else to sell it to. You made some money your first month, but soon the business died from lack of customer interest.

Let’s face it, advertising, prospecting, and selling are probably the hardest parts of running a business. You may be thinking you can’t own a business because you don’t like to sell.

Today you don’t need to be a selling dynamo or know all the ins and outs of advertising to really make a business go. There are fabulously powerful systems that use search engines to drive non-stop traffic to your web site. Then a professional sales team, staffed with top-notch sales people, can talk with and SELL each of your prospects for you.

By the time you hear from the prospect, they’re more than ready to sign up and buy from you.

Does this cut down on the time you spend running your business? You bet is does. I’ve seen people, including myself, use this system to work just 5 minutes per week and earn a full-time income.

This kind of smart outsourcing is just what you need to make the home-based business dream come true for you. When you’ve got lots of cash coming in from your business, while experts are running much of it for you, you can spend your time doing the things you love.

One woman keeps your home-based business running in the background while she runs a community center that is being lauded everywhere for its important work.

Anther man runs his home-based business on the side while he travels the world with his wife. The business gives him all the money he needs while the outsourcing the hours of work to others who specialize in those tasks.

So don’t let your vision of owning your own home business wait. You CAN own your business NOW, even if you don’t like to sell or have much extra time to run it.

Steroid Use In Sports Is Banned

There are vague references of steroid use in sports in the 1936 Berlin Olympics where the German Olympic team is believed to have taken oral testosterone preparations. The World Weightlifting Championships of 1950s are widely known for Soviets weightlifters steroid use in sports of weightlifting. According to reports, the team physician for the United States, Dr. John Ziegler was told by the Soviet teams doctor that their term was getting testosterone jabs, which helped them, perform powerfully.

Alternative Ways To Fight Stress

Stress relief is something that everybody needs to get regularly, no matter how much they complain that they don’t have the time. Especially if they complain that they don’t have the time! There are a thousand and one ways to get stress relief, with some of them being considered to be tried and true methods. However, there are some problems with these old methods, particularly because the old methods may or may not work that well with people who have new mindsets. While making someone listen to Mozart may not be a cause for complaint, it may not work that well in relieving his stress either, particularly if classical music isn’t really suited to his tastes. For people with that sort of personality, perhaps the best stress relief is one that might be considered a little…unconventional.

Improving Cash Flow with Invoice Factoring and Purchase Order Financing

Managing cash flow can be a challenge for many businesses. But creative funding options like invoice factoring and purchase order (PO) financing can make the job much easier.

These financial solutions offer convenient, cost-effective and immediate access to working capital. Invoice factoring and purchase order financing are suitable for companies in just about any industry. They can provide financial support to expand, manage business surges or even meet day-to-day operating expenses. And they’re ideal if your company is newer and can’t obtain a loan.

The Ins and Outs of Invoice Factoring

Invoice factoring is easy to set up and terminate. To qualify, you should have no existing primary liens or claims on your accounts receivable. And you must have creditworthy clients who pay their invoices promptly and in full.

When factoring customer invoices, you can receive quick cash advances often within 24 hours. Your cash advance is based on the overall value of the invoices you provide as collateral. Typically, you can get 80 percent.of the invoice value upfront and the remaining value after your client pays the invoice minus a three to five percent factoring fee.

Your customers pay the factoring company directly. And the factoring company takes responsibility including any loss for the collection of their debts. It’s important to note that invoice factoring is not a loan, so there are no repayments to make. You are simply using the good credit of your clients to release your own assets to be put back in your own business.

Historically speaking, factoring is a well-established form of business financing that produces cash payments at the time of shipping, delivery and invoicing. Its origin has been traced to the days of the Roman Empire or even earlier, but the U.S. factoring industry dates back only about 200 years to the early nineteenth century. Factoring companies, known as factors, evolved from U.S. selling agents for European textile mills. Currently, about 70 percent of the volume of traditional factors is still in textiles, apparel and related industries that highly value credit guarantees, according to the Commercial Finance Association.

Invoice factoring can provide the working capital your business needs to handle new projects, fill large orders and pay creditors on time or even early. In essence, factoring can keep your cash flow running smoothly while your business grows. This can enable you to stop worrying about finances, and concentrate on productivity and how to profitably expand your business. Factoring also can help you avoid wasting time tracking down accounts receivable or handling bad debts.

Here are some other important factors (no pun intended) about invoice factoring:
- There is no application or set up fee.

- You choose which accounts to finance.

- Invoices eligible up to 30 days from the date of invoice.

- There is no a minimum funding requirement or requirement to factor all invoices.

- The funds wired directly into your bank account.

- Customers send their checks directly to our lockbox.

Cashing in on Purchase Order Financing

PO financing can provide quick cash flow reserves for manufacturers, importers, exporters and distributors. This type of short-term funding is used to finance the purchase or manufacture of specific goods that have been presold by the client to its credit worthy end customer. Funding involves issuing letters of credit or providing funds that allow companies to secure the inventory they need to fulfill customer orders.

With PO financing, working capital financing is protected by a security interest in existing purchase orders and the proceeds of the purchase orders. Normally, the security interest is perfected by the lender taking possession of the inventory or raw materials.

PO financing can pay for the cost of your goods directly to your supplier, freeing up cash for other critical business expenses. This can help your company ensure timely deliveries to customers, grow without increased bank debt or selling equity, and increase market share. To qualify for PO Financing, you must provide financial information about your company, information about your buyer and supplier, and buyer and supplier invoices.

PO financing is available for finished and non-finished goods, although finished goods are generally easier to finance. Finished goods involve transactions where the goods go directly from your supplier to your buyer. You never touch them or take direct possession.

Non-Finished Goods are when you, the seller, take possession of the goods either in a raw state (such as yarn to make blue jeans) or a semi-finished state (partially sewn blue jeans). In either case, you must take possession of the product.

Purchase order financing can help solve a variety of cash flow dilemmas. Here’s a prime example: Your suppliers want you to pay cash on deliver (C.O.D.) and your buyers want to pay you net 30 to 60 days. You have no cash flow during manufacturing, while the goods are in transit, and until your invoices are paid.

PO financing may be right for your company if…

- You need additional working capital.

- You lack expertise to handle the financing.

- You need a quick response to an immediate sales need.

- You don’t want to incur additional credit risk, be it foreign or domestic.

- You want your buyers and sellers to not know each other.

- You want the opportunity to make additional profit.

Purchase orders can be used for U.S. and foreign buyers and suppliers. Consider this scenario involving a U.S. supplier and U.S. buyer: You’re an apparel manufacturer. You’ve been in business for six years and have a good profit and loss statement and balance sheet. You just received a large order and are maxed out on credit from your suppliers. Your sales price to your buyer is $100,000 and your total cost to produce the goods is $75,000. Your gross margin is 25 percent. The financing company will purchase the goods for you from your supplier, give you 45 days to produce the goods, charge you a 5-percent purchase order fee ($5000, 5 percent of $100,000) and factor your receivables.

Wakeboards For Thrill And Action

If you love to spend your vacation in the water and you are the adventurous type, then wakeboarding is just the sport for you. This board sport is relatively new but has gained popularity during the last few years.

In wakeboarding, a boat with a rope tows the rider. The rider rides on a buoyant board, called a wakeboard, and uses the wake to launch himself up into the air and then back into the water. Though this may sound simple, there are quite a few tricks and spins to learn before you can master the sport.

The essentials for wakeboarding are wakeboards and wakeropes. Wakeboard length varies between 120 and 150 centimeters and the wakeboard width is between 40 and 45 centimeters. Beginners should begin with longer wakeboards with square edges or square rails. Square-edged boards are more stable and easier to control, though round-edged boards are easier to land. Round edges also allow boards to easily gain speed, providing quicker lifts during air tricks. Krown, Hyperlite, Liquid Force and CWB are specialized wakeboard manufacturers and their wakeboards cost between $350 to $600.

Experienced wakeboard riders also take into consideration the rockers, fins, bindings and the design of the board. Bindings or boots provide a secure attachment to the boards and should provide a comfortable support for the heel and ankle.

Wakeboard ropes vary in elasticity and length. The length of a wakerope is normally between 60 and 70 feet. They may be one-piece, which does not allow any length adjustments, or may come with adjustment loops. A tighter and stiffer rope allows little stretch and is used to perform air tricks.

Wake boats nowadays come with wakeboard towers. Instead of the rope being mounted on the back of the boat, the rope is mounted on a tower, which is normally 2 to 3 meters from the water level. Wakeboard towers allow a better pull and stability and also enable a rider to gain more air height while performing tricks. The towers also provide additional space for wakeboard racks, wakeboard speakers and lights. Fly High and Skylon are the more established wakeboard tower manufacturers and the price ranges from $900 to more than $2000.

Wakeboard accessories add color to the sport. Wakeboard speakers may be attached to the towers and can be used to play music or to give instructions to the riders, especially beginners. Waterproof covers are also available for the wakeboard speakers. If you want to flaunt your skills at night, then you can also add wakeboard lights. Handles should be comfortable to hold on to and most come with rubber padding. Beginners should also use wakeboard helmets for additional safety. Eye-catching wakeboard apparels are also available with wakeboard dealers.

Debt Help Using Online Debt Management Services

Choosing to eliminate your consumer debt is the best financial decision you can make. Having excessive debt is the cause for much worry and stress. In order to free themselves from this huge burden, many consumers acquire debt consolidation loans. Unfortunately, getting a loan to consolidate debt requires a good credit rating, homeownership, or collateral. If you do not meet the criteria for obtaining a loan, online debt management services may be the way out.

What are Debt Management Services?

Debt management services are agencies that assist consumers in their endeavor to become debt free. There are two types of debt management services. These include agencies that charge a monthly fee for their services, and non-profit agencies. To avoid scams and fraudulent companies, it may be wise to select a non-profit agency.

The main goal of debt management services is to reduce your debts and put you on the path toward becoming debt free. To accomplish this goal, a representative from the agency will request information about your creditors and debt amounts. Once you submit this information, the representative assigned to your account will contact each creditor. Through negotiating, the agency will be able to get late fees waived and interest rates reduced.

After the debt management service and your creditors reach an agreement, the agency will lump all your debt into a single loan. Your existing credit accounts will be temporary frozen; thus, you are unable to acquire additional debt. If you decide to no longer use the debt management service, your accounts are unfrozen. Each month, payment is sent to the debt management agency, and not your existing creditors.

How to Choose an Online Debt Management Service?

Research and compare services before selecting a debt management agency. The internet is a valuable resource for finding information on various programs. Each program is different. Some programs require a minimum or maximum debt amount. Furthermore, other programs solely work with individuals who have several missed or late payments.

When comparing different debt management services, request quotes that include detail information pertaining to estimated payoff dates and monthly payments.

Public-Key SSH Login

SSH is a popular system allowing a remote shell (command interpreter) to be used over a secure connection. By secure, here, I mean that the connection is encrypted, authenticated and integrity checked. The encryption prevents attackers reading the contents of the data being transmitted, the authentication allows both the client and the server to be sure that they are connected to the other, and not to some intermediate system in a man-in-the-middle attack, and the integrity checking ensures that the data is not being changed during transit. Together, these three features provide a secure connection.

Even so, the password based login feature transmits your password through this link, to the remote server, where it is hashed and compared with the stored value in the password file. To many, even though the connection is encrypted, this is not satisfactory. SSH allows the use of public key authentication to login to a server. Here, you upload your public key to the server, and keep your private key on the client machine, optionally password protected so that no one can steal your private key file and use it to gain access without a password.

Now, when the SSH connection is established, the server will need to check the authentication of the client; that is, make sure it is you logging in. This was previously done by requesting your password, and comparing it against the stored password hash. Now, the server encrypts a randomly generated token against your public key, and sends this to you. The private key associated with your public key, stored in a file to which only you have access, either by password protection, filesystem permissions or other means, is the only key able to decrypt this message. Now, your SSH client will decrypt the message and send it back to the server, which compares it against the original value. In reality, the authentication is often also checked in the opposite direction, using the servers public key, which may be stored by the client. Once the server knows you hold the private key which corresponds to the public key, it grants you access.

So, you may ask, what is the security benefit here? Well, no secret information is being transmitted. You are no longer transmitting a password, nor are you transmitting any of your private key file. You are using the keys to encrypt and decrypt a piece of random data, which works one time only. Anyone who did somehow manage to listen in on this data stream would not be able to regain access by playing back your password, or even by playing back the same data transaction, as a different value would be encrypted the next time you login, and only the private key itself can decrypt that.

Public Key authentication is supported in OpenSSH, and also in PuTTY and many other SSH systems. Check your systems documentation for details on how to use public-key based logins.
